In about 1570, Rana Pratap (as he is also known) succeeded to the throne, and thus marked the era of Rajput ascendancy and their rivalry with the Mighty Mughal Emperor, Akbar. Though the Rajputs were defeated on their encounter, with the Mughals, the former were undeniably one of the fiercest opponents that the latter had ever faced in their long rule in India. Maharana Pratap, who spent a major part of his life in jungles, was always accompanied by his horse, which he had named "Chetak". The horse was loyal to
his master and carried him in every battlefield and stood by his master till he breathed his last.
