Jagmandir is an island palace in Lake Pichola Udaipur. It was developed by Maharana Karan Singh when he extended and raised the level of the dam in about 1620 AD . It is on this island where Mughal prince Khurram took a refuge for a short time in 1623 when he was in revolt against his father Emperor Jahangir. Prince Khurram who later became Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan ,builder of the Tajmahal at Agra was influenced by the small domed palace of Jagmandir ,with its fine in-lay work from which he derived some of the ideas for the design of TajMahal.

Maharana Jagat Singh I (1628 -1652) made several additions to Jagmandir island in udaipur. Within the palace was the temple dedicated to the Lord Jagdish and hence the name is derived from that. It is well proportioned and attractive with large gardens and courtyards with tropical flowers and exotic fruit trees. In the middle of its courtyard is an exquisitely carved chhatri (small domed kiosk) of special grey-green granite called Pareva, imported especially for this purpose
