It was here at Haldighati the great legendry battle fought between Maharana Pratap and the Mughal Emperor -Akbar on June 18 ,1576. The vast terrain that was supposedly covered with blood (the sand turned Red in colour) evokes a chill in the spine till date and envelopes a feel of nostalgia, this was the place where the heroic Chetak the gallant charger with his dedicated loyalty towards his chivalrous master (the Maharana Pratap) proved his worth by co-operating till his last breath. A 'Chhatri' with delicate white marble is dedicated both to the indomitable hero and his loyal charger, is note worthy.
This battle of Haldighati is an important and memorable event in the history of India. The battle of Haldighati was the out come of the Emperor Akbar's insatiable imperial ambition . A very hot and tuff battle was fought at the pass of Haldighati. At one stage during the course of battle Pratap hand an upper had when his steed, named chetak put its fore feet at the fore head of Raja Man Singh's elephant.
Rana Pratap directed his lance straight to wards Raja Man singh who luckily remained unhurt by the powerful stroke of Rana's lence. However this daring attempt both of chetak and his master pratap proved to be the most striking and fascinating scene of the whole battle. And the painter has successfully depicted this daring and immortal scene in a painting a visible source to imagine the faithfulness of chetak and the dauntless courage, chivalry and valour of its master, the exemplary freedom fighter Rana Pratap of Mewar. Haldigati is also witness of the scene of the happy reunion of two separted or departed brothers : Rana Pratap and Shakti singh.
